WWI

During WW I, some Americans were opposed to the war. Our text states that "to encourage unity, Congress passed laws making it a crime to criticize the government or it interfere with the war effort. Nearly 1,600 men and women were arrested for breaking these laws."

Do you think that the government should have the right to silence critics during wartime? Give reasons to support your point of view.
