In the novel Wonder by RJ Palaco we learn that a "precept" is a rule or rules about really important things. Mr. Brown's September precept is "When given the choice between being right or being kind, CHOOSE KIND."

WWI

During WW I, some Americans were opposed to the war. Our text states that "to encourage unity, Congress passed laws making it a crime to criticize the government or it interfere with the war effort. Nearly 1,600 men and women were arrested for breaking these laws."

Do you think that the government should have the right to silence critics during wartime? Give reasons to support your point of view.

Your task today is to watch the YouTube video "I Pledge." You will see movie actors, sports heroes, musicians and more describe their personal pledge to help change our country.

As you watch, think about what you could do to make your home, school, town, state, and nation a better place to live in.

After watching and reflecting on the video, blog about some areas of your life that you could change. Brainstorm as many personal pledges as you want!
